Most Common Reasons a Bosch Dishwasher Stops Mid-Cycle

A mid-cycle stop is different from a dishwasher that never starts. The useful clue is what permission or input disappeared while the program was already running.

  • The door loses its fully closed state: Bosch states that the dishwasher stops when the door is not securely closed. A tall plate, pan handle, rack that has not rolled fully back, or an item pressing the door can let it look closed without holding a stable latch position. Check whether the racks seat freely and whether the door closes without resistance. A technician must prove the door switch and latch signal remain stable as the dishwasher vibrates and heats; the symptom alone does not prove the latch needs replacement.
  • The installation is putting pressure on the door: Bosch also points to level, alignment, and rear-panel or hardware interference. A cabinet screw, hose holder, uneven opening, loose mounting, or a custom panel that rubs can change how the latch engages. The owner-visible evidence is an uneven door reveal, rubbing mark, dishwasher movement, or different behavior when the racks are empty. Installed level, mounting, panel balance, and door geometry are installer or service measurements, not reasons to pull the dishwasher out.
  • Power is interrupted during the program: When the display and floor indicator go dark at the same time, treat that differently from a lit control that pauses. The safe evidence is visible residue or an obstruction at an owner-accessible vent area named in the model manual. Internal vent cleaning, door adjustment, and hot-steam testing belong to service.
  • A model-specific fault stopped the sequence: If the door stays secure, power and water remain available, and the same stop returns, the code, timing, and last sound matter more than a parts list. Door sensing, inlet response, pump or heating feedback, protection logic, or control progression may need separation. No control, pump, or latch should be approved from “stops mid-cycle” alone.

Use the Stopped State Before You Reset Anything

  • Everything went dark: Record the breaker position and whether other circuit loads changed; do not treat this state as a door pause.
  • The display stayed on and the time froze or flashed: Photograph the exact remaining time, remove any rack item pressing the door, and record whether a normal close resumes the program.
  • An exact error code appeared: Photograph the entire display and full E-Nr, then use the code-specific decision rather than a generic interruption checklist.
  • The dishwasher stopped with standing water but no code was preserved: Do not assume the water proves a drain pump failure. Record where the program stopped and use the separate Bosch dishwasher not draining decision if water remains after the program should have drained.

A Door Pause, AutoAir Opening, or Long Quiet Interval Is Not Automatically a Stop

Opening the door during a program normally pauses operation. On a dishwasher whose complete E-Nr manual lists and enables AutoAir, automatic door opening near the drying phase can be expected; a door opening during active washing is not normal AutoAir behavior.

Bosch dishwashers can be quiet enough that a heating, soaking, or sensing interval sounds inactive. Use the indicators instead of sound alone. If the remaining time continues to change, the program indicator remains normal, and the cycle eventually completes, a quiet interval is not the same as a cancelled or faulted program.

Safe Checks That Preserve the Clue

  • Photograph the display: Capture the exact code, remaining time, illuminated options, and any floor indicator before cancelling the program.
  • Photograph the E-Nr label: Record the complete E-Nr and serial information; a series name such as 300, 500, or 800 does not define the control sequence.
  • Check the load at the door: With spraying stopped and the door opened carefully, make sure no tall item, handle, utensil, or rack position presses the inner door.
  • Check visible door travel: Confirm the door closes without scraping and the dishwasher does not visibly move in the cabinet. Photograph contact or an uneven gap; do not adjust mounting.
  • Check accessible utilities: Confirm household water is available, the accessible shutoff is open, and record the breaker position without opening electrical connections.
  • Record repeat timing: If one controlled retry is safe and the exact manual allows it, note whether the stop returns at the same remaining time, after a fill, during washing, or before draining.

Reset Ends a Program; It Does Not Diagnose the Stop

Bosch's current US reset instruction uses “Reset 4 Sec.” or the Start button for about four seconds on applicable controls. The dishwasher then pumps out residual water for about a minute and cancels the cycle. Button labels and the exact sequence vary by E-Nr.

Use that procedure only when there is no leak, electrical warning, repeated trip, or other stop condition. If the same interruption returns, stop; another cancel cycle will not prove the cause.

What Not to Do

  • Do not hold or wedge the door shut: A cycle that runs only while pressure is applied has exposed a useful door-state clue, not a safe workaround.
  • Do not loosen mounting screws or adjust the feet: Door geometry on a built-in dishwasher must be checked against the installation instructions.
  • Do not test the latch, control, pump, heater, or wiring live: These checks cross the homeowner-safe boundary.
  • Do not pull the dishwasher from the cabinet: Water, drain, power, and custom-panel connections require an access plan.
  • Do not keep resetting after a leak, code, or breaker trip: Stop using the dishwasher.

When to Stop Using the Dishwasher

Stop immediately if water is escaping from the door or cabinet, water reaches an outlet or connection area, the door opens during active spraying, the latch or hinge is visibly damaged, the breaker trips again, or there is a burning/electrical odor or smoke. Close the water shutoff if it is safely accessible. Disconnect power only from a dry, safely accessible location; otherwise use building maintenance or an electrician.

  • Send the stopped display: Include the code, remaining time, option lights, and floor-light state if visible.
  • Describe one repeat: State how many minutes passed, what sound came immediately before the stop, and whether the door moved.
  • Note recent changes: Include cabinet work, a newly installed dishwasher, a large-item load, a power outage, or building water work.
  • Report the tub state: Note whether the detergent released, dishes became warm, and water remained in the bottom.
