Most Common Reasons a Bosch Induction Cooktop Keeps Shutting Off

  • No suitable pan remains detected: Covered Bosch controls can stop a zone after the documented no-pan interval. Pan material, magnetic-base size, and position determine whether the zone continues heating.
  • Automatic time limitation is reached: Extended operation without a control change can invoke the model's time limit. Preserve the display so this is not mistaken for overheating.
  • A zone or the electronics enters overtemperature protection: A protective shutdown after sustained load requires the model-documented cool-down and diagnosis if the retained condition returns.
  • The touch panel is wet, obstructed, or exposed to cookware heat: Moisture, objects, or heat at the control area can interrupt input or trigger protection. Clear only visible conditions when safe.
  • The whole cooktop loses supply or control power: A whole-unit shutdown without a documented protective state requires branch, connection, and control-power diagnosis.

Use the Display to Name the Shutdown

  • Flashing setting before one zone stops: Photograph the display, center a known induction-compatible pan on that zone, and compare the same pan on another zone. If the known pan is accepted elsewhere but this zone still drops out, stop testing and arrange zone-level diagnosis; do not label it an overheat event without an overheat code.
  • F8 with H/h: Photograph the code, then touch one control element as Bosch directs for the automatic time limit and set the zone again. If F8 returns without an extended uninterrupted run, preserve it for service rather than repeating resets.
  • F2, F4, or E7015: The corresponding zone has already switched off. Let the electronics cool, touch one control element after cooling, and resume only if the message disappears. Stop if the code returns during ordinary use.
  • F5: Move hot cookware away from the control panel when safe and let the control area cool. If the message remains, follow the exact E-Nr instructions; do not treat F5 as the F2/F4/E7015 state.
  • Blank panel or breaker trip: Leave the cooktop off and do not cycle the breaker. The branch supply, connection, and control-power path require qualified diagnosis.

What Not to Do

  • Do not bypass time limits, temperature protection, or pan detection.
  • Do not open the cooktop, test live voltage, or block cabinet ventilation.
  • Do not label every shutdown as overheating; preserve the actual display before deciding what happened.
  • Do not continue using a unit that trips the breaker or heats unexpectedly.

Stop Using the Cooktop When

Stop for cracked glass, smoke, electrical odor, unexpected heating, unusual cabinet heat, repeat breaker trip, or a protective code that returns under ordinary load after the documented cool-down.

What a Technician Must Confirm

A technician reads retained fault history and measures zone command, pan detection, surface and control temperature, ventilation, supply under load, and control power. Those measurements separate cookware detection, protective operation, and whole-unit power loss.

What to Record Before Service

  • Model: Complete E-Nr and FD/serial.
  • Display: Exact code or blank/restart behavior.
  • Scope and timing: One zone or whole unit, elapsed cooking time, and active zones.
  • Recent event: Installation, outage, spill, cleaning, or cookware change.
